Biden to Waive Tariffs on Solar Panels

AEE Customers – A news article from Yahoo Finance on June 5th, stated that President Joe Biden will be declaring a 24-month tariff exemption on solar panels from Southeast Asia. As you are aware, solar panel importation into the US has all but dried up as a result of a complaint filed in March 2022 with the Commerce Department claiming that solar panel production in this region is in reality Chinese companies attempting to circumvent existing US Tariffs.

If the Commerce Department had agreed with the complaint, there was a threat that the US Government could impose punitive retroactive tariffs as high as 250% on these solar panels and related products. The investigation and uncertainty of the additional tariffs has greatly reduced the US supply of imported solar panels, as approximately 80% of USA’s most popular types of solar panels are produced in this region.

AEE will closely monitor this situation, and you can be sure that we will quickly react and attempt to bring in more supply so that you can proceed with your projects in the second half of 2022.
